Hourly Rates and Deposit Policies

Mediation- arbitration - adr

District Court Civil Cases
My rate for District Court commercial, probate, personal injury, and business mediations is $125 per party, per hour.  My standard setting is a half-day block of three hours.  Therefore, I request an advance retainer of $375 per party.  For full day mediations, my advance retainer is $875 per party.  Two-hour settings are also available on request. 

Domestic Cases

My rate for domestic mediations is $75 per party, per hour.  My standard setting is a half-day block of three hours.  Therefore, I request an advance retainer of $225 per party.  For full day mediations, my advance retainer is $525 per party.  Two-hour settings are also available on request.

County Court Cases

My rate for County Court mediations is $50 per party, per hour.  My standard setting is a half-day block of three hours.  Therefore, I request an advance retainer of $150 per party. Two-hour settings are also available on request.

Arbitration and PC/DM Cases

My arbitration rates are also $125 per party, per hour.  In view of the added complexity of arbitration matters, I do not offer a discounted rate, and I do not set arbitrations for less than 3 hours.  Moreover, because arbitrations require the preparation of a written decision (called an "Award") my advance retainer requirement for a half-day arbitration is $500 and a full-day arbitration is $1000.  Additional time spent in arbitration will be invoiced on an hourly basis. In PC/DM cases, I set an advance retainer based upon the needs of the parties.  

Payment Options

You can make credit card payments in advance of the mediation by choosing the options and clicking the buttons below.  Do not make a payment before your mediation with John Tweedy has been confirmed and a date has been selected for the mediation.  For arbitration and PC/DM matters, I will send you an electronic invoice with the correct deposit amount.

All payments must be made 5 business days in advance of the mediation session, unless the session is scheduled fewer than 10 days in advance of the mediation date, in which case, payment is due immediately upon confirmation of the session.  If payment is not received prior to the session without alternative arrangements being approved, I will cancel the mediation. 

Deposits are refundable if sessions are canceled with at least 72 hours' notice.  If sessions are canceled with shorter than 72 hours' notice, or if a party is a no-show, the deposit is nonrefundable.  No-shows are required to pay the full cost of both party's deposit for the missed session in order for any case to be rescheduled, unless extenuating circumstances exist.
